Als Ergebnis der Überlegungen zu seinen thematischen Schwerpunktsetzungen hat sich das Institut auf vier Bereiche verständigt, die in den kommenden Jahren dazu dienen sollen, wissenschaftliche Kooperationen im Institut zu stärken, Kompetenzen zu bündeln, vorhandene Infrastrukturen effektiver zu nutzen und vor allem auch neue, gemeinsame Forschungsaktivitäten zu generieren. Bei der Festlegung ging es darum, Themen zu identifizieren, die vorhandene Kapazitäten und Kenntnisse berücksichtigen sowie gleichzeitig rezente Entwicklungen in der Kulturanthropologie aufgreifen, und dadurch das Potenzial haben, förderwürdige Forschungsprojekte zu generieren.

As a result of its reflections on its thematic priorities, the Institute has agreed on four areas that will serve to strengthen scientific cooperation within the Institute in the coming years, pool expertise, make more effective use of existing infrastructure and, above all, generate new joint research activities. The aim was to identify topics that take existing capacities and knowledge into account while also addressing recent developments in cultural anthropology, and thus have the potential to generate research projects worthy of funding.
