Under the Gerda Henkel Postdoctoral fellowship, Alula Tesfay Asfha joined the Frobenius Institute for Research in Cultural Anthropology at the Goethe University of Frankfurt to conduct research focused on vernacular building traditions of Ethiopia. He is a lecturer at Mekelle University, Ethiopia. Previously, Alula was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Tsukuba and Shibaura Institute of Technology in Japan where he researched on the documentation of cultural heritage under risk using publicly available open-source tools. Earlier, he was a Monbukagakusho Scholar at the School of World Heritage Studies, University of Tsukuba, where he conducted doctoral research on the urban Heritage of Mekelle City.
